This course is offered in two-day and three-day formats and is designed to introduce the concepts of Lean Manufacturing and stress the philosophy behind a Lean culture.
The largest obstacle to overcome is one of attitude and engrained company culture. The differences between mass production attitudes and Lean Manufacturing attitudes are explored and the leadership issues are discussed.
The following “Lean Tools” are discussed at an introductory level. In the two-day session, a more in-depth treatment and additional group exercises are used:

- 5-S and the Visual Workplace
- Identifying the Seven Wastes
- Cellular Manufacturing
- Poke Yoke – Error Proofing
- Pull System and Kanban
- Quick Set-up and Changeover
- Total Productive Maintenance
- Value Stream Mapping
- Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE)
The value stream is only those process steps that occur in the creation of a product or service which add value to that product. Participants will be introduced to drawing value stream maps and the use of standard icons and process data boxes.
In the three-day session, a full-day workshop models an organization’s own manufacturing process, and creates both a current-state value-stream map and a future-state process map. This exercise reinforces the learning and participants can use the output as the basis for real process improvement.
Whenever possible, we conduct our training within the context of an organization’s own kaizen event. Individual Lean modules are presented to the extent they support the kaizen event, and then used during the current state evaluation and future state transformation.
